A New York State Trooper, who seemed to have a great voice, got the attention of the two thousand or so people marooned in Keene Valley.  He even moved them around so that there was different places that a choral leader could manage to have them sing from.  The singing went on for at least 90 minutes.  The people stomped their feet, sang loud, moved as they were asked to, and kept busy until finally some commandeered buses got there to bring them up to Lake Placid.  

The Montreal Star newspaper spoke of  the New York State Trooper with the intelligence and talent who took the initiative to make an unhealthy and unusual predicament into a memorable event.  That State Trooper was TROOPER JOHN KING.  I've waited 36 years to remind people that JOHN KING was one of those people whom we too seldom hear about who made a difference in the health and well being of another human being.   I don't know if he ever sang at any other place but he was the hit of that cold parking lot.  May John rest in peace.
